Astrology is essentially the study of cycles found in the cosmos. In particular, the cyclical movements of the planets found in the solar system, the major asteroids, the fixed stars and the constellations are they key structures used to symbolise the themes which occur in our lives based on the nature and timing of that particular cycle. The concept behind astrology and how it affects our lives is based upon the ancient doctrine of the Macrocosm and the Microcosm. This doctrine is the basis behind the well known axiom, “as above, so below” and describes the inherent pattern in reality appearing and repeating itself at all levels of existence in one form or another. Dating back from around the 4th Century B.C, this theory was a prominent belief amongst Greek philosophers who noticed the occurring themes which manifested between the larger structures and the smallers structures in society and the entire universe in general. This observation also confirmed to philosophers of that time that all matter in the universe maintained a strong energetic connection with each other, regardless of size, form, structure and composition. As more cases of cosmic themes represented by the planets and stars were manifesting at a physical level in society, Astrology's popularity and recognition as a respected trade grew as the people started to encompass the guidance and teachings of the cosmos in their everyday lives. By studying the great cosmos, which mirrors life’s themes at a more expansive level, Astrology can reveal insightful guidance in one’s personal life through the interpretation of the planets’ movements. The themes and circumstances that can be revealed through an astrology consultation is only a potential of what could manifest in the client's life. Contrary to popular belief, the true art of Astrology cannot provide direct forecasts of specific events which may manifest. Rather, it depends on the intuition of the Astrologer as well as the level of evolvement, awareness and free will by the client which will determine the degree in which the potential dictated by the cosmic cycles will be achieved. On a more physical level, Astrology works through the subtle gravitational pull of the planets which affects the Earth. The Moon, being the closest planet to Earth, shows its strong gravitational affects through its influence of the flow and ebb of the tides. Astrologers from the past have spent years in observing the cosmic activity of the Universe and developed a set of characteristics behind each planet based on the consistent nature of activities occurring during a planet’s presence over repeated occasions. As time and the human consciousness evolved, so did the refinement of the symbology of Astrology and today, it is highly valued for its merit in psychology, counseling, prediction and life guidance.
